Greens member of parliament Jeremy Buckingham has wound up his tour of mining areas across the state, the visit including Gloucester and Wards River last Monday and Tuesday.
The MP said the Vale of Gloucester was one of the most picturesque and important areas he visited during the course of the tour, particularly in terms of water resources in the region.
Mr Buckingham said it was so important to protect the area from the impacts of mining and coal seam gas extraction.
“It’s a massive threat to agriculture, tourism and the health of the people of the Vale of Gloucester,”he said.
During the tour Mr Buckingham met with members of the Barrington Gloucester Stroud Preservation Alliance, Gloucester Residents in Partnership and the Johnsons Creek Conservation Committee.
He said concerns were raised with him about the expansion of the Duralie and Stratford mines and he is completely opposed to these projects.
“The future is sustainable agriculture, tourism and creating a wonderful lifestyle with clean air and clean water,” Mr Buckingham said.
Mr Buckingham said the Greens want a 12 month moratorium on the coal seam gas industry and said the Coalition Government is yet to deliver on its election promises in relation to mining and coal seam gas.
