Booral teenager named Sportsperson of the Year

01 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Great Lakes Council’s Sportsperson of the Year has been awarded to Chloe Hutchinson for her commitment and dedication to activities in rowing primarily for Hunter Valley Grammar School.

The Booral resident’s whole life is committed to rowing which is demonstrated by her many and varied achievements in the field, culminating in being selected into a training squad from which the NSW under 18s women’s Youth 8+ will be chosen to compete in the Kings Cup Interstate Regatta at the 2012 Australian Championships - a massive achievement for a 16 year old.

In her spare time, Chloe sews quilts for charity and has recently returned from Vietnam where she helped build a home, raised money and donated clothing and toys to the people in the village.

Lyn Reid from Hawks Nest has been awarded Citizen of the Year, from a field of worthy contenders.

Young Citizen of the Year has been awarded to Mitchell Blanch from Bulahdelah.

Mitchell has undertaken the role of school vice captain at Bulahdelah Central School and has been an active member of the Student Representative Council.

Mayor Cr McWilliams said the winners, together with all the nominees, are truly great members of our community.

“We are fortunate in the Great Lakes to call them our own,” she said.

Local aged care facilities within the Great Lakes area received Mayor’s Awards for their contributions.

These included Stroud Community Lodge.

“All the recipients of the Mayor’s Awards have one thing in common – they all care about the elderly and frail and succeed in caring with dignity, respect and comfort,” Cr Williams said.
