Year 9 students at Gloucester High School have received laptops as part of the Rudd Government’s digital education revolution.
The school’s 67 Year 9 students received the laptops last week as part of the nationwide technology rollout.
The laptops each contain $5,500 in software ranging from the latest version of Windows to video and music editing software, as well as having a wireless internet connection and blue tooth capabilities.
Teacher Daniel Moar said the laptops now belong to the students for the duration of their school studies and if they complete Year 12, the students keep the laptop. If they leave prior to then, the computers are returned to the school.
Mr Moar said each of the computers is set up for use by the individual student only, and if they are lost or stolen they can be shut down remotely so they are rendered inoperable.
The school’s students were excited to receive the laptops and were looking forward to putting them to use.
The school’s classrooms have been wireless enabled at a cost of $200,000 and a dedicated staff member appointed to oversee the use of the computers.
