Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Centre is seeking interested visual artists who may be interested in voluntary involvement in Pathways to Connection: a mosaic expression of the Gloucester community.
This public art project’s initial workshop is to take place in March with a workshop to be advertised in a few weeks. The Mosaic, Pathways to Connection, will provide a stunning unique and creative mosaic to be strategically placed within Gloucester for all to benefit.
The project is funded by Community Builders administered in NSW in partnership with Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Centre.
Kelley Chapman, project manager, expresses that the anticipation of the final outcome is somewhat a mystery at this stage though is optimistic and has great confidence in what will be finally produced as she has secured the engagement of Guy Crosley as artistic director of the project.
“Having Guy on-board will ensure we capture the essence of the community of Gloucester in a way that will be long appreciated by all. Guy is well known for his many works around the Mid North Coast, Central Coast, Sydney and internationally. His works can be seen from Dorrigo, Lennox Head, Scotts Head, Coffs Harbour, Nambucca, down to Gosford and Sydney” saidKelley.
Leanne Barrett, Gloucester Art Gallery Director has been engaged as the Pathway to Connections project coordinator and is said to be honoured to be working alongside Guy in this project.
Leanne recently viewed some of Guy’s work at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and at Scotts Head and was excited to think the community Gloucester would have an opportunity to work with Guy in producing something similar for Gloucester.
Inspiration for the work will involve public consultation through the workshops to collectively decide a design followed by free mosaic workshops involving all sectors of the community i.e. aged and disability; youth; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders; community groups; local businesses; educational institutions; the art and musical sector and the heritage and cultural services, to create the collaborative art piece.
Further to these workshops, interested community artists will be able to learn more about the process of ceramic making, public art development, and access the 30 years of experience that Guy Crosley has developed over his career as a professional artist.
