Much Ado about Nothing for festival

27 Oct, 2004 01:21 PM
The theatre company Shakespeare et al have suggested that they perform "Much Ado About Nothing" at the 2005 Shakespeare on Avon Festival.

Anne Frost, the director, said "It has a pastoral feel about it and should go down well in Gloucester". Julie Lyford, Chair of the organising committee agrees.

"We are so pleased that Shakespeare et al can do the festival again next year.

They put on a fabulous show, which is amusing and thoroughly delightful.

The way they adapt the script and locations to suit Gloucester is ingenuous and adds to the pleasure," Julie said.

Another suggestion received is to stage the magical and joyous show "Fairies" for primary school children.

Anne Frost put the show together and describes it as a "wonderful way to introduce Shakespeare to primary school children". Shakespeare et al have just finished a successful season with "Fairies" performed at the Hunter Valley Gardens.

If there is agreement to include "Fairies" as part of the Festival it means that more funds are needed. And this means more people are needed to help organise the festival. The person who originally wrote that "many hands mean light work" said it all.

The organising committee would love to hear from anybody who would like to join them in helping to put together the festival. Julie Lyford said "People can be helpers without necessarily becoming members of the committee and attending meetings."

Paul Sheridan from would like to remind the community that all workers at the festival are covered by insurance.

The next organising committee meeting will be held Thursday October 28, 4pm at Council Chambers. Enquiries please telephone Julie Lyford on 6558 1995.
