This week is Drug Action Week, a time when communities aim to raise awareness of alcohol and other drug issues, and to recognise the achievements of the frontline workers in the alcohol and other drugs sector.
This year, the Gloucester Action Team (Community Drug Action Team) has successfully received funding from Community Drug Action Strategies for several projects.
The first, to purchase resources for the Gloucester Library and the Gloucester High School Library. Three drug and alcohol related games are being donated to the high school, which will educate young people about alcohol and other drugs in a fun, yet informative way. Two new release books have been donated to the town library as a resource for parents of young people to assist them with knowledge and strategies about dealing with alcohol and other drugs and their children.
A display has been set up in the town library showcasing the new resources now available. The display will remain in place for several weeks.
Gloucester Action Team also assisted and funded the Youth Centre and Indent Committee with the Taboo drug and alcohol free dance that was held on last Friday, June 19, at the Soldiers Club.
Keep an eye out in the main street at the roundabout for two new banners that have an image and the theme “What are you doing to yourself” written on them.
