Council’s general manager Allan Young wasn’t the only person settling into a new job last week.
At Gloucester Police Station Senior Constable Scott Chester was on duty in Gloucester for the first time.
Scott has taken up the position of sector supervisor at the Gloucester station, moving from Inverell.
After 20 years in the New England Local Area Command, including being stationed at Inverell, Delungra and Tingha, Scott decided it was time for a move.
Originally from Newcastle, Scott said he’s always liked Gloucester, and it was a frequent stop off point on the drive from Inverell to Newcastle.
“When the opportunity came up, I jumped at it,” he said.
Scott’s three years at Delungra, a one-man station, gave him an opportunity to work in a small community, something he loved.
“I love working in small communities, and I loved community based policing during my time at Delungra, it was a driving factor in applying for Gloucester,” he said.
Scott said in the short time he has been in Gloucester he has been welcomed by everyone he’s met.
“The community has been tremendously friendly, “ he said.
Scott will be joined by his wife and family in Gloucester at the end of the school term.
A second new police officer will start at Gloucester station later this month, joining John Broadley and Scott, taking the station back to full strength with three police.
