Most Stroud residents would be aware that Great Lakes Council’s consultants WMAWater Pty Ltd are undertaking a Flood Study for the township. The aim of the study is to define the flood behaviour from local catchment flooding from Mills Creek and Lamans Creek over the full range of flooding up to an extreme flood event.
The Flood Study will also determine the number of buildings affected by over floor flooding and the flood hazard areas.
Residents have been consulted and local media reports have called for any Stroud residents with information on flood levels or photographs depicting past floods in and around the township to contact Council.
A letter was also sent to all residents whose properties adjoin the creek seeking their input about the extent of past flood levels, particularly the June 2007 flood.
However, with a disappointing response so far, the Consultant is again urging local residents to consider whether they have any information, or even photographs, about flood levels in the town or on their own properties.
The Flood Study will establish computer models of the township that will allow determination of design flood levels and extents.
The performance of the models will be verified based on historical data and community feedback. In order for the flood study to be accurate, it must be based on reliable data.
Stroud residents will be given an opportunity to comment on the draft study and express their views when the study goes on public exhibition.
If you have any information on your observance of past flood events in Stroud, particularly in June 2007, please contact Great Lakes Council, telephone 6591 7222.
