Thunderbolt’s story opens at Gallery

11 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
A crowd of more than 60 people gathered at the Gallery on Friday night to celebrate the opening of Wendy Fraser’s exhibition “The Drinks Are On Me”.

The exhibition tells the story of Gloucester’s legendary bushranger Thunderbolt and his wife Mary Ann and features beautiful large scale photographs of some of his famous haunts, including Thunderbolt’s cave in the Bucketts and Thunderbolt’s stables.

To produce many of these photos Wendy used a technique called Gum Bichromate, which was the popular way of printing photographs in Thunderbolt’s era.

As well as admiring the photos, the large crowd also enjoyed listening to some of the stories of Thunderbolt’s exploits by Wendy and other locals whose family histories include part of the Thunderbolt legend.

This exhibition presents a wonderful opportunity to discover more about one of Gloucester’s legends and is on show at the Gloucester Gallery in Denison St until Sunday November 29.

The Gallery is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and entry is free.
