Manning Highlanders have won their first game in three years against a very determined Hastings Green.
The U12 Highlanders won the toss and decided to bowl on a very humid Gloucester day with the experience of last week’s performance the Highlanders knew that they had to bowl well to restrict the Hastings total. To the boys credit the bowling figures of all the players was nothing short of outstanding, with only four wides being bowled in 45 overs.
All players in the side had a bowl and not one let their side down. The fielding was exceptional and drew comments from the Hastings coach along the lines that our boys’ have bionic arms, 3 runs outs! A direct hit from Jess Newman that Ricky Ponting would have been proud of!
Final total for Hastings was 100 runs off 45 overs - great effort guys.
The run chase started with Curtis Landers and Jess Newman looking very solid. Jess fell for six in the sixth over. Michael King jointed Curtis and done a great job building a partnerhsip to get the score to 31 before “Kingy” fell. Ryan Yates joined a very solid Landers to form a great partnership of 47 runs with Landers falling for an excellent 24 (well done Curt). Highlanders were travelling very well at this stage and with Mitch Nevin joining Yates all looked well.
Hastings went with spin and got the results. Yates fell for 27, Nevin for 5. Jesse Lloyd and Tyrone Goodman picked up some valuable runs to edge the Highlanders closer to a much sought after victory. Both players fell and the pocket rockets Coen Durbidge and Sam Mudford finished the game off in style. Corey you will get a bat in Gloucester and Barky you can bowl!
All the best boys I am very proud of you all.
- Darryn Yates
