Division 1:
Higgins def. Germon 6 sets-0 (37 games -16) Higgins put their previous week’s practice to good effect with a strong tussle for the first set. There were long rallies and strong net play through all sets, but Higgins had the advantage. Sue’s long stretch, Fay’s persistence and Kerry’s speed took the game.
Division 2
Adams def. Green 6 sets-0 (36 games-13) Lorraine and Sue began their strong game early and the team did not let up. The heat of the day called them off for a breather but the break could not give the Greens the help to take any sets this day. Lorraine put in plenty of aces, along with Paula and Bell.
The players really appreciated the contributions of the umpires helping out on the courts. It was a hot day, but thankfully just a gentle breeze after the dust storm of the previous day. The audience was rewarded from the cool of the verandah with a good spectator sport. This was followed by a spread of sandwiches and hot food and some yummy cakes and slices, in tennis ladies’ style. At the Presentation, the winners received some beautifully appliquéd towels (Tennis 2009) and there were some fun awards too.
Birthday wishes to Elizabeth, Neville, Jan and Kelly. Thanks to Neville for preparing our courts too.
