Division 2:
Green v Wand. Three floaters used, two to replace Mellie and Emma and Christine Parkinson to replace Sjaan Wilson in Ruth’s team. Paula Blanch and Chris Dean opened with a tiebreak which Ruth and Kelli won but revenge is sweet when Paula and Chris took the repeat set 6/2. Christine won her four sets, not bad for a floater, actually it is great, well done Christine. Bua improved as the match progressed, serving a problem. Kelli served several aces but also caught the double fault bug, but was lucky enough to win the raffle. Green 5 sets 32.
Holstein v Bobsien. It must have been an off night for the three Holstein players when they lost all six sets to Mae, Gai and Nessie. Mae used her serving racquet successfully with well directed aces to keep it a very low scoring match for Elona, Pam and Amy. Gai’s returns have been good using all the court, Nessie reduced her double faults, Amy must move to the ball more, and both Pam and Gai were free of double faults.
Beesley v McSwan. Kalen continues to throw herself into her matches (literally) but the steady as you go tennis by Paddy, the opposing No 2, was equal to the task. Sharon was reduced to a simmer after being on fire the previous week. Beesley’s were leading by 5 games prior to the final set, making a love set win necessary for Gisela (for Di Mansfield) and Kalen to snatch a match win for McSwan. Amanda had a good match and she too is improving her standard, encouraged by Captain Heather. Beesley 4 sets 29 to 2 sets 21.
Division 1:
Harris v Martin. Last court to finish, long, long rallies produced by six consistent players. You could call Martin’s the quiet achievers even now with Leanne joining their ranks. No frills tennis, just consistency, wearing down the opposition is the winning recipe for Sharrone, Mercia and Leanne. Martin’s were six games up and leading 3 sets to 2, prior to the last set won by Mercia and Leanne 6/3 over Sonia and Irene. Only one tiebreak was played and it produced a set win for Fay and Irene 9/7 against Sharrone and Leanne. It is pleasing to see no double faults to Leanne and she did manage some aces. Good serving by both teams. Martin 4 sets 33 to 2 sets 24.
Lamb v Relf. After losing the first two sets, Lorraine and Kelli (for Colleen for Relf) took set 3 to love over Bell and Sally to bring the score to a respectable 12/11 to Lambs. Bell and Sally Higgins were replacing Di Bardwell and Julie Laurantus (team Lamb) both had a good match, particular mention must be given to Bell’s performance. The returns came from her racquet so sweetly, winners taking the line regularly. Barbara and Bell had a 6/0 win over Jeanette and Lorraine who hadn’t played badly, just proving the wizardry of Bell. Accurate serving, Kelli very fast. Lamb 4 sets 28 to 2 sets 21.
Pearson v Cowan. Betty, Toni and Rhonda again proved their dominance in this competition when they defeated Kerry, Gai Falla (for Kym Randall) and Fay Westley six sets to love which has been a regular result against most teams for Betty’s trio. Both teams served well but then the returns were good also and all players did their job when positioned at the net.
Players are reminded to bring money for the December 18 Christmas party, floaters are also invited and the social tennis get-together is December 16 at the Bucketts Motel.
Team 3 in both divisions is asked to provide supper tomorrow night.
Birthday wishes to Julie Gorton and Alison Kellner who had a birthday on Monday.
– Tennis, don’t you just love it!
