GARNER’S will close its IGA supermarket on August 30.
The company informed workers last night that the store would be closing.
Garner’s has operated a supermarket at the site for the past 87 years.
In a broad-ranging statement in today’s Advocate, Garner’s said the recent opening of Woolworths in Gloucester had hit the family-owned company hard.
The family thanked its loyal staff, customers and other supporters for their patronage during the past nine decades.
The company will continue to operate a supermarket from its Foodworks site, which will be refurbished.
No other businesses owned by the company will be affected by the closure.
