THE National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has conducted a weekend hazard reduction burn in the Williams River area of the Barrington Tops National Park.
NPWS Barrington Tops area manager Anthony Signor said the burn started on Saturday was part of the Chichester Range Strategic Fire Management Zone and aimed to reduce bush fire fuel between the park and private property and visitor facilities located around the Williams River area.
“The 2500ha burn in steep, remote and rugged terrain was assisted by an NPWS helicopter using aerial incendiaries”, Mr Signor.
“We are taking advantage of the current weather conditions which will enable a low to moderate intensity burn as part of an ongoing fire management strategy.”
