GLOUCESTER High has two new school captains in Daniel Hughes and Sophie Kingston.
Daniel and Sophie were introduced as the 2014 captains in a special leadership assembly at the school at the start of the month.
The vice captains for 2014 will be Hannah West and Sarah Moore, meaning for the first time three girls will be in the leadership group.
The school changed the way students elected captains this year, focusing on candidates’ leadership credentials.
Students were required to submit an expression of interest and successful applicants were asked to participate in a formal interview.
Once endorsed by the interview panel, the students were chosen through a vote.
“All four were fantastic candidates,” deputy principal Mike King said.
“We tried to make the process less about popularity and more about leadership and that was quite evident in the speeches that each of the successful candidates delivered before the vote.”
The four take over from outgoing school captains Jack Wilson and Caitlin Johnson and vice captains Kane Snow and Caitlin Wardrop.
