WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES: MYSTERY surrounds the dumping of four skinned animal carcasses in the Avon River.
The bodies of the four animals, believed to be goats or sheep, were removed from the river near where they had been dumped at the Jacks Rd Bridge by council workers on Tuesday afternoon.
Several skins that had been removed from the animals had also been dumped in the water.
Environment and Planning manager Graham Gardner said council had provision to dispose of animal carcasses at its landfill facility on the Thunderbolts Way.
“We don’t want them dumped in our streams or rivers,” he said.
Mr Gardner said council had the authority to pursue and prosecute members of the public if they were found to be dumping animals in local waterways.
