WORK to restore Denison St to two-way traffic will begin next week.
Last Thursday council delivered flyers to most CBD businesses informing them of the planned work.
The cost to ratepayers will be $1920, with council moving all barriers, seats and garden beds 2.8m to the south, as well removing and replacing all road signage.
In his recommendation to council at its August meeting, technical services manager Gil Gendron said it was “an unnecessary cost to achieve very little”.
The widening of the Meeting Place was funded through a $40,000 infrastructure grant from the State government. A further $25,000 has been spent upgrading Denison St.
The work will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 15 to 16. Minor traffic delays and pedestrian disruption can be expected.
