GLOUCESTER Uniting Church celebrated its centenary last weekend.
The State’s highest ranking church official the Reverend Dr Brian Brown was in Gloucester for the celebrations, which included an afternoon tea and power point presentation on Saturday afternoon, a dinner at the Soldiers Club on Saturday night and a special church service on Sunday morning.
While the original Methodist church (now the church hall) was built in 1913, Methodist services in Gloucester date back as far as the early 1870s.
Gloucester was proclaimed a Home Mission Station in 1911 and services were held in the School of Arts hall before the new church was built.
The present day Uniting Church building was constructed in 1993.
The dozens of Uniting Church parishioners that attended the centenary celebrations were presented with a booklet outlining the history of the church.
