GLOUCESTER Baptist Church has welcomed a new youth pastor with the arrival of James Goodwin.
James has relocated to Gloucester from South Melbourne with his wife Amber where he was employed as the enrolment coordinator at the Melbourne School of Theology.
The 23-year-old said Gloucester felt like the right fit after several years in the city.
“I’d applied for a lot of jobs, but kind of had the feeling this was where I was meant to be,” he said.
“I phoned Luke (Hester) at the church and since that phone call I couldn’t wait to get up here. So far I’ve loved everything about it.”
James’ commissioning service was held at the Gloucester Baptist Church last Sunday with Steve Dixon from Baptist Youth Ministries NSW in attendance.
As youth pastor, James will be responsible for teaching scripture at local schools as well as preaching at the Baptist Church.
He is also keen to develop a youth outreach service.
“I want to mentor people and assist troubled youth in particular,” he said.
“I don’t necessarily want to create things for local youth to do, but I do want to get them to appreciate each other through friendship and activities.”
James said he had already started talking with local service providers and youth groups to identify where he could make a difference.
“I want to partner with those existing services and make myself available to them,” he said.
“I want to build on top of the bricks that have already been laid.”
