Following revelations last year that the State government was considering changing the way small schools were administered, local P and C committees joined together to voice their opposition to the proposals.
They include a proposal to reclassify the position of principals at small schools as well as introducing administration ‘hubs’ in regional areas.
“We want to support these schools and find out more about the issues,” Cr Rosenbaum said.
“We’ve asked for the concerns of those schools affected to be put down in writing and we’d like those concerns to be answered by the Minister.”
Cr Rosenbaum said schools such as Barrington and Stratford were important community hubs that could be impacted should such proposals be introduced.
“Those communities take enormous pride in their schools and that could be lost if these proposals are true,” he said.
He said council would seek permission from the Minister’s office to invite representatives from some of the schools along to the meeting.
