The Magpies started strongly through tries to Corbin Predebon, Boe Clarke and Tom Middlebrook to lead 16-nil at half time.
A first class defensive effort kept Clarence Town scoreless until the early stages of the second half but the Magpies quickly regained the ascendancy.
A try to Nathan Bassani from a kick by halfback Hayden Tull was quickly followed by a second to Tom Middlebrook.
Middlebrook completed his hat trick to give the Magpies a 32-12 lead before a late try to Clarence Town saw the home side close the gap to 14 points.
Gloucester host Abermain in round three of the Newcastle Hunter Rugby League D grade competition at Bert Gallagher Oval this Saturday. Kick-off is 3pm.
