GLOUCESTER’S Marianne Paynter is no stranger to royal events.
Mrs Paynter has been the chair of the Royal Easter Show’s horticultural committee for the past three years, but that still did not prepare her for her meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last week.
Kate and William were presented with a bouquet of Australian native flowers by Mrs Paynter during their visit to the show last Friday.
“It was a bit overwhelming but they were just delightful,” Mrs Paynter said.
“They wanted to look at some of the photography exhibits and the sheep but to do that they had to go through the horticultural exhibit.
“We found out for sure they’d be at the show three weeks ago but I didn’t know I’d be presenting them with a posie of flowers until a couple of days before.
“My sister asked what I was going to wear and I told her I didn’t have a clue because I’d packed all my bags to go down to the show two weeks earlier.”
