Defending champions Bruce Wilson and Col Hebblewhite were up against Gordon Pritchard and Steve Brown in the pairs and it was a high quality contest.
Gordon and Steve managed to win 14 of the 21 ends played and kept their noses in front from start to finish, winning 22 shots to 15.
In the fours it was close right up to the last end with all bowlers suffering the vagaries of the wind.
The quartet of Jim Whittaker, Bob Charman, Brad Martin and Allen Rose edged out Terry and Steve Higgins, Kevin Burley and Phil Wilson 21 shots to 16.
Last Monday, June 23 saw monthly social mixed bowls go ahead with 20 players taking to the green for a pairs competition followed by dinner, for which members were joined by 20 partners and friends.
Look out early in July for the next social event. Thanks to the Joneses and their helpers for their work in producing a fine dinner.
Last Thursday, 28 social bowlers were joined two players from the first round of the minor singles.
Vic Hebblewhite and Kevin Burley played their singles match early as Vic will be away for the official first round.
Vic struggled from the beginning to match Kevin’s consistent draw bowls and went down 31 shots to 12 in 26 ends.
In social matches the day’s first prize was won by Jim McIntosh, Jim Whittaker and Clive Redman who had a strong 28 to 10 win over Paul Sutton, Eric Latimore and Jack Landers, scoring 20 points on the way.
The runners-up were Ken Baxter, Bob Crittenden and Gordon Pritchard who scored 19 points in beating Kevin Waite, Don Beaumont and Bob Charman 28 shots to 12. The weather took a hand as all bowls were cut short by an intense storm on Saturday.
The minor singles match between Terry Carson and Don Beaumont will continue this Saturday at 11am. Don was leading 25 shots to 10 at the interruption.
This weekend is the first round of the minor singles with only six matches scheduled. Games are on Sunday from 9.30am. Social bowls will be on Thursday and Saturday at 1.30pm as usual.
