AS an infrequent visitor to Gloucester, I only recently noticed the re-opening of Denison Street’s west-bound lane to vehicular traffic at Church St.

On my last visit, this area was an attractive and activated public space, which also added amenity to the main street of Gloucester.
I note with concern a public risk issue which is of council’s own making in this latest makeover.
The elevation of a road to the same level as a pedestrian footpath is an accident waiting to happen.
Council has effectively removed delineation of pedestrian footpath to road.
Yellow plastic studs placed on the Denison St footpath are an indication council is aware of potential for public risk at this location.
I predict that a small child will eventually walk past the footpath boundary onto a busy road without realising.
I urge council to reconsider the design of this location in order that serious injury to a child or other pedestrian is prevented.
