THE ladies of the Uniting Church put their sewing needles to work last Friday as part of the Days for Girls feminine hygiene initiative.

The group gathered to construct hygiene kits to send to teenage girls in third world countries who do not have access to feminine hygiene products.
“Unlike us, these girls can’t purchase those items,” organiser Heather Beesley said.
“This is one small way of helping these girls have a better life.”
In many third world countries, the lack of access to sanitary products means that girls miss over two months of school per year or even drop out completely.
The Days for Girls program aims to increase access to these products so that girls remain in school and receive a better education.
Each kit is washable and contains items such as liners, shields and underwear.
The group’s short term goal is to create 68 kits, with plans to offer the program ongoing support.
