Although the 2014 festival was rated the best ever by audiences, the festival committee has decided to take a break for a year while they discuss options and plan for a festival relaunch in 2016 in a new and exciting format.
Festival chairperson Maureen Hjorth was upbeat about missing a year.
“We were so pleased with the feedback this year. The revamped Elizabethan Faire proved a vote-winner, as did the return of Newcastle’s Stooged Theatre for their performances of The Merchant of Venice,” she said.
“We’d like the talented ensemble to return to Gloucester in 2016 and we’ll be discussing future Shakespeare performances with their director Carl Young.
“Options being discussed by the committee include having show-only performances to eliminate the logistics of presenting a pre-show hot meal, adding additional matinee performances plus having a stronger presence of GACCI talent in the festival program.
“We’ve looked at the feedback regarding time of year for the festival and will focus on dates that suit the schools that attend the Thursday and Friday performances. And we’ll avoid Mother’s Day weekends too.”
The festival committee will be reconvening early in 2015. Anyone interested in assisting in the delivery of the 2016 festival can contact Maureen on 0419 426 816.
