Storms increase during the warmer months from October through to March.
“The purpose of the display is to provide practical advice to residents on how they can reduce property damage and risks to personal safety posed by storms, by undertaking some basic home maintenance and planning,” Gloucester SES unit controller Bruce Sun said.
“These measures include cleaning roof gutters, trimming tree branches, fixing any broken or cracked roof tiles and maintaining yards and balconies.”
“The council display will be made up of a number of free brochures containing advice on how people can prepare their properties for the storm season, put together a home emergency kit and develop a home emergency plan.”
The Gloucester SES unit has 24 volunteers.
The unit has responsibility for helping the community deal with severe weather events such as storms and floods.
In addition, the unit is also responsible for undertaking vertical rescues, road crash rescues and assisting the NSW Police in land searches.
Last year Gloucester SES members volunteered more than 600 hours to the community.
Anyone interested in joining Gloucester SES can contact the NSW SES Mid North Coast Region Headquarters on 6592 5800 or call the NSW SES Volunteer Hotline on 1800 201 000 to receive an information and application package.
