An east coast low over NSW led to a 7cm dusting of snow fell across the Barrington Plateau.
National Parks crews said the heaviest falls occurred in the Polblue area with between eight and 10 inches of snow covering the ground.
Dozens travelled to the Tops on Wednesday to experience the mid-spring falls, with several 4WD trails in the park closing for safety and to ensure the trails remain in good condition allowing them to be used for the rest of the season.
Barrington Trail (south), Barrington Trail (north), Bullock Brush Trail, Tugalow Trail, Thunderbolts Trail, Paddy’s Ridge Trail and Butchers Swamp Trail were all closed to traffic but the Barrington Tops Forest Rd remained opened throughout Wednesday to 4WD traffic.
Ranger Peter Beard said conditions on the ranges were likely to be fairly unpleasant when the Advocate spoke to him early on Wednesday morning.
"There's likely to be high winds, trees down and conditions are going to be very unpleasant," he said.
Brad Lawman posted a picture on the Barrington Tops Snow Chasers page early on Wednesday morning of light snow falling down as far as the Dingo Gates on the western side of the range.
