A thick pall of smoke descended on Gloucester this morning as bushfires to the north and south of the town continued to burn.
The Rural Fire Service says there are six fires still burning in the Gloucester district, with the largest at Stratford, Curricabark and Monkeycott Nature Reserve.
Bushfires at Craven, Woko National Park and Bretti are now listed as under control.
A fire at Monkeycott Nature Reserve has burned out nearly 650ha of land and is being controlled by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
At nearby Curricabark, a fire has burned 347ha of private property according to the RFS though no infrastructure is under threat.
A fire to the south of Gloucester that started near Stratford has now spread as far north as the Gloucester Tops Rd and has burned 322ha.
The rapid outbreak of fires is a reminder to all residents near bushland, to ensure their properties are properly prepared for fire, and that a bushfire survival plan has been prepared for their families.
