PROP Mathew Higgins has been named the Gloucester Magpies Player of the Year for 2014.

The club held its presentation night at the bowling club on October 18 with Higgins and centre Scott Wratten sweeping the major awards.
Higgins was named Best Forward and joint Club Ironman to go with the Player of the Year gong, while Wratten took home the Best Back, Most Tries, Most Points and joint Players’ Player awards.
Simon Hitchcock was the joint Club Ironman and Players’ Player winner while Mitch Kellner received the Coach’s Award and Kyle Predebon was named Rookie of the Year.
Jack Ross was the Magpies 2014 Club Person of the Year and Nathan Smith was the recipient of the Bert Gallagher Medal.
The club also recognised current players that had notched up more than 100 games with the Magpies.
Scott Wratten (165 games from 2005 to 2014), Mathew Higgins (141 games from 2006 to 2014), Simon Hitchcock (139 games from 2006 to 2014), Hayden Tull (125 games from 2006 to 2014) and Michael Shultz (112 games from 2005 to 2014) were all inducted into the Magpies 100 Club at the presentation.
The Magpies finished the 2014 Newcastle Rugby League D grade competition in fifth place after they were bundled out in the first week of the finals by Clarence Town.
