Gloucester Shire Council’s draft study provides detailed information on flood behaviour in the key catchments surrounding

Gloucester and provides comprehensive mapping of different possible flood events, from ‘worst case’ scenarios and possible changes to rainfall as a result of climate change, through to a 1-in-5 year flood.

Gloucester Shire Council’s water scientist, Kate Johnson, said the Flood Study provides a valuable source of information that will be beneficial for many different purposes.

“The Gloucester and Avon Rivers Flood Study provides a detailed description of flood behaviour that can be used for land use planning, emergency response, construction of future infrastructure, asset management planning and catchment management,” Ms Johnson said.

The Flood Study expands on previous floodplain risk management studies undertaken in the area to incorporate comprehensive mapping over a larger region, including the majority of the Avon catchment where mining and coal seam gas activities exist or are proposed to occur.
