He was recognised for his fundraising efforts for the Cancer Council over the past two years.
The following interview was held at Gloucester Advocate on Monday, November 17. It revealed a very caring young man with a wonderful attitude towards life and family.
Editor: Congratulations on your Tidy Towns award. I am amazed at your successes at such a young age. What prompted you to raise funds for breast cancer?
Ryan: My grandmother on my mother’s side had breast cancer, and I was also aware that some of my cricket mates had family members suffering from breast cancer.
Editor: Are you going to be involved in the National judging on 1-2 December?
Ryan: Yes, I have been invited to the Council Chambers for an interview with the assessor.
Editor: How will you prepare for that?
Ryan: I think I will have to have something different to my original application. Mum especially will help me, plus Mr Davis from the SRC at school.
Editor: What else do you do, particularly in sport?
Ryan: I love sport, and socialising with the team, but I also like meeting new people in local and representative cricket. I also play soccer, and I have been training with the Cockies Rugby Union team. I play Rugby for Gloucester High School and representative teams.
Editor: What are your ambitions?
Ryan: I have sort of changed my mind over the last couple of years – I’d like to do something outdoors and/or physical, so I am thinking about a trade in the Army or Physical Education teaching.
