The final went ahead under sunny skies on Sunday and it was a close contest for the majority of the match.
The champions took seven of the first 11 ends but only led by nine shots to three over Tammie Collins, Jill Everett, Kevin Burley and Kevin Everett.
It stayed close until end 17 when a three-shot win gave Col and team a 15 to six lead and a view of the finish.
The teams shared the final four ends, scoring three shots each. The final score of 18 to nine saw Col, Bruce, Joan and Dee crowned champions.
The presentation of the fours and mixed pairs champions, Hellen Crittenden and Kevin Burley, took place after the match followed by a barbecue. Thanks to the ladies bowls club.
This concludes the championships for the club in 2014. A reminder to all that entries for the men’s fours for season 2015 will close soon.
Last Wednesday the delayed second semi final of the mixed fours went ahead as Bob and Jan Jones joined Bev and John Murray to take on the formidable quartet of Dee Groves, Joan Ridgeway, Steve Higgins (substituting for the unavailable Bruce Wilson) and Col Hebblewhite.
Unfortunately for the Jones and Murray combination, Col and friends raced to a 10-nil lead in no time and kept their foot firmly on the accelerator to win 16 of the 20 ends played, advancing to the final with a 26 shots to 11 win.
Last Thursday’s social bowls saw 28 players make up four matches of triples and one of pairs competition.
Nineteen points was the score required to take first prize and the threesome of Paul Sutton, Charlie Faulkner and Eric Latimore achieved this and a 12-shot victory in subduing Bill Murray, Ray Smith and Andrew Henderson.
The runners-up with 18 points were Vic Hebblewhite, Dean Brien (visiting from Taree Railway Bowls Club) and Lu Urby who won 26 to 16 over David Hjorth, Terry Carson and Tony Tersteeg.
Jim Whittaker, Ron Stepto and Peter Green had a 16-point win over Ken Baxter, Barry Peacock and Bob Jones to take third with a 20 to 17 victory.
The last two winners were Barry Wade and Kevin Everett who won 25 shots to 23 over Terry Higgins and Gordon Pritchard and Steve Howlett, Peter Sansom and Kevin Burley scraped home against Don Beaumont, Bob Crittenden and Gary Spokes by one shot on the last end of play.
Last Saturday the weather intervened as 14 players weathered the storms for 16 ends before sanity prevailed.
It was enough to find a winner and the laurels went to Bob Jones, Joe Holstein and skip Kevin Waite who had a 22 to 11 win over Terry Davies, Harry Cox and Terry Carson.
In second were Jim Whittaker and Steve Higgins who beat Peter Sansom and Charlie Faulkner by 22 shots to 15 while Andrew Henderson and Gordon Pritchard had a one-shot victory over Peter Green and Rob Hayes.
