GLOUCESTER High has again showed small schools can compete among the best with students achieving some outstanding results in this year’s Higher School Certificate.

Principal Pat Cavanagh said the school had seen outstanding results achieved in Ancient History, Legal Studies, PD/Health/PE, Software Design and Development, Metal and Engineering and Hospitality.
Of the 38 students to sit the HSC at Gloucester High, 21 are seeking entry to university courses and received their ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) scores early this morning (Thursday).
Mr Cavanagh said the students at the school achieved five band six (marks of between 90 and 100) results, 26 band fives (between 80 and 89) and 51 band fours (between 70 and 79).
Sarah Moore achieved a mark of 91 in both Ancient History and PD/Health/PE and received an ATAR of 92.3.
In Biology she finished with 88 and in Advanced English and Legal Studies her mark was 86.
Sarah plans to take a gap year in 2015 before returning to Australia and hopefully studying at university in Sydney.
Jemma Clarke, who received a mark of 90 for Hospitality, said her results had exceeded her expectations.
“I got 84 for PD/H/PE, 81 for Drama, 82 for Standard English and 79 for General Maths,” Jemma said.
Jemma received an ATAR of 80.25 and hopes to attend university and complete a degree in Global Studies.
Shelby Green said he was “very happy” with his results.
“My best subjects were Extension English and PD/H/PE. I got 86 in both,” he said.
An 85 in Ancient History, 84 in Advanced English, 79 in Maths and 76 in Extension Maths saw Shelby receive an ATAR of 85.5.
He has already been accepted to study Law and Economics at UNE in Armidale in 2015.
Sophie Kingston achieved outstanding results in Visual Arts, Biology, English and Drama
She received a mark of 92 for art and band fives in each of the other three subjects for an ATAR of 86.4 which will allow her to study vet science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga.
Main round university offers will be released at 6pm on Wednesday, January 21.
