Council installed the new concrete traffic island on the eastern end of Denison St earlier this month and already it has caused angst among residents and motorists.
Cr Tony Tersteeg said pedestrian access and safety was the main issue created by the device which did “nothing to calm traffic” and made it almost impossible for residents to park in the area.
General manager Danny Green conceded there had been “a fault in the process” when construction of the traffic calming device had been approved.
“Staff should have argued more during that time for pedestrian access,” he said.
“It went from a planning to an engineering matter and the two departments never came back together.
“There will be a future cost to council with some form of pedestrian crossing to be installed.”
