Club president John Hughes said the club had applied for $64,000 to fund the new demountable clubhouse, which would be built at the back of the Gloucester Rec Centre.
Upper Hunter MP George Souris announced last Wednesday that the club had received $8000 towards the project under the State government’s Community Building Partnership program.
Several other local projects also received funding:
- Gloucester Shire Council received $4000 to go towards the upgrade of the grandstand at
number one oval.
- Stroud Show Society received $2000 to go towards the refurbishment of the shower and toilet blocks at Stroud Showground.
- Gloucester Rifle Club received $2000 to go towards the upgrade of its facilities.
- Gloucester District Tennis Association received $5000 to go towards the refurbishment of the tennis clubhouse.
- Gloucester Hockey Association received $2000 towards the maintenance of Captain Cook Park.
Mr Hughes said the club had been looking to build a more permanent facility at the Gloucester grounds for the better part of 40 years but this was the first time they had applied for grant funding.
He said to purchase a building for the site would cost about $25,000 - without including expenses for other infrastructure.
Mr Hughes said the club would now consider what options it had to erect a clubhouse.
“Whether it means we work our way from the bottom up I’m not sure,” Mr Hughes said.
