The pair will begin their school journey at Gloucester Public next Monday along with dozens of other local children.
Both are the first children in their families to start school.
For Makaylee’s mother Casey, there is almost a sense of déjà vu.
Casey also started school at Gloucester Public.
She said she was still coming to terms with the idea her eldest child was about to start school.
“I know everyone says it but I can’t believe how fast it’s gone,” she said.
“Everyone tells you how fast it is and it’s true.”
Both girls completed a transition program from preschool to kindergarten late last year.
Casey said the only minor blip Makaylee had experienced in the lead-up to the start of school was when she realised she would be spending less time with her grandmother.
“She’s been spending a lot of time with my mum when I’m at work and I don’t think she understood that school is on every day,” Casey said.
Both Makaylee and Emily have younger sisters who are at preschool.
Casey said her two daughters were great playmates and it would be interesting to see how the pair adapted to the change.
“They get along really well so it will be interesting to see how they both cope,” she said.
