Brenton, 30, was diagnosed with the disease midway through last year and is now confined to a wheelchair.
Motor neurone disease is a neurological disorder that affects the cells controlling voluntary muscle activity including speaking, walking, swallowing and general movement of the body.
Sufferers of the disease eventually lose all ability to walk, speak and function.
Brenton’s doctors say he could only have months to live with the disease progressing at a rapid rate.
The fundraiser, held at Stroud Showground on January 17, included a raffle, auction and car and bike show with people digging deep to help out.
Brenton’s mother Julie said the support from the town had been amazing.
“We would like to thank Stroud Lions Club, all the volunteer fire brigade members from four local units, Allworth Fishing Club, Golden Eagle 4WD Club, Dave Gorton and Billy Dywer as auctioneers and family and friends who helped make the day a success,” she said.
Stroud Lions Club has set up a bank account for Brenton and his family with donations gratefully accepted. For further information contact Julie Teasdale on 0447 653 477.
