The exhibition ‘Tracey’s Colour My World’ opens tomorrow at the gallery.
Tracey’s love of art and colour started at age 11.
“Before I was 11 I couldn’t draw a stick figure,” the Gloucester River artist said.
“But then suddenly everything went clunk.”
She continued to paint and sketch throughout her teens and into adulthood but an exhibition always seemed a bridge too far.
“Life kept getting in the way,” Tracey said.
But 18 months ago Tracey again felt the urge to exhibit some of her works.
“I’m a member of Gloucester Arts Society and I sold a couple of my paintings in a joint exhibition with the group,” she said.
“I thought ‘why don’t I do my own exhibition?’ It’s something I’ve wanted to do all my life.”
The past six months has been a blur of painting, frame building and preparation for the exhibition.
“(Husband) Barry and I have made all the frames from scratch ourselves,” she said.
“I couldn’t have afforded to do the exhibition if I’d had to get someone else to frame them.”
The exhibit works include colourful images of flowers, clowns and horses along with the odd portrait here and there.
“Most are recent, but there are a couple that I did early on in the piece,” Tracey said.
An official exhibition opening will be held at the Gloucester Gallery this Saturday from 6.30pm with a performance from local songstress Meakan Kellner.
