Speaking at last Wednesday’s monthly meeting Cr Smith said it seemed ludicrous for council to spend $22,000 installing a kayak launch in a “river you can’t kayak in”.
Council received a $22,000 NSW Fisheries grant to build the launch.
In-kind support in the form of $22,000 worth of gravel is council’s contribution to the project.
General manager Danny Green defended the work by saying the project would “improve access to the river”.
Meanwhile, council is undertaking several major roadworks projects across the shire:
- Works to complete a 5km seal extension of Waukivory Rd are ongoing.
- A 1.2km reconstruction of road is currently underway on Thunderbolts Way.
- Crews are working to prepare sections of Thunderbolts Way and Scone Rd for resealing. A total of 5.3km of resealing work has been programmed.
