Senior Constable Broadley will take up a shift supervising sergeant’s role in Forster in the next couple of months.
For the 26-year veteran of the NSW Police, it will be quite a change from the beat he has patrolled for the past dozen years.
“It’s a new chapter, a new challenge,” Senior Constable Broadley said.
“I’ve been on the promotions list for the past six years but basically I was just waiting for the right spot to come up.”
Senior Constable Broadley and wife Kym arrived in Gloucester 12 years ago from the Central Coast.
“We originally intended to be here for between three and five years but the kids enjoyed the place and so did we,” Senior Constable Broadley said.
He said the change from a large command to a small one had taken some getting used to.
“Policing in a country town is 24-7. You’re never really off duty,” he said.
Working in collaboration with other emergency service providers in Gloucester has been a highlight of Senior Constable Broadley’s time in Gloucester, as was his involvement in the capture of Malcolm Naden.
“There were issues between the different emergency service branches in the past and with a lot of hard work we’ve been able to put those behind us,” he said.
“The three years I spent working on and off on Strike Force Durkin (the hunt for Naden) was a definite highlight.
“That was a once in a career opportunity.”
Gloucester Police will hold a farewell for Senior Constable Broadley, wife Kym and their family at the Fox Den Café on Thursday, April 16.
Tickets can be purchased at the Gloucester Police Station or at the Fox Den at a cost of $25 per person and includes finger food, drinks and entertainment by musician Hester Fraser.
