A MAN has been arrested and charged with numerous offences after police pursued a stolen car along the Pacific Highway, south of Taree.

On Sunday police were performing stationary speed enforcement duties on a section of the Pacific Highway near Nabiac.
Around 4.20pm, officers detected a Mitsubishi Lancer travelling at 134km/h in a sign-posted 100km/h zone of the northbound lanes.
A check of the car’s registration revealed it had been reported stolen, so police, with lights and sirens activated, attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver of the Lancer drove on, reaching speeds of approximately 180km/h.
Road spikes were deployed further up the highway, deflating both of the Lancer’s front tyres and forcing the car to stop.
The 26-year-old driver, and sole occupant of the car, was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with numerous offences relating to the theft of the car and the police pursuit.
Bail was refused, and the driver appeared in Taree Local Court on Monday.
