A draw in the only pairs game gave both sides 13 and a half points but the match must have been enjoyable as Peter Sansom and Phil Wilson drew 19  all with Barry Peacock and Mark Groves.

With a one shot win, 19 to 18 and 15 points were Jim McIntosh, Neville Holstein and Kevin Burley against Don Ridgeway, John West and Kevin Everett.

Sixteen points was scored by Paul Sutton, Col Atkins and Barry Wade as they beat Harry Cox, Mark Donohue and Terry Higgins by 22 shots to 19.

In third place with 18 points and a 28 to 18 shot victory were Jim Whittaker, Vic Hebblewhite and John Andrews over Rob Bowden, Eric Latimore and Allen Rose.

Runners up prize went to Denis Buckton, Bruno Mills and Gordon Pritchard for their 19 point, 29 to 15 shot victory over Luke Keene, Clive Redman and Steve Higgins.

In first place with 20 points and a 26 to 6 shot win were George Weismantle, Peter Green and Bob Charman who destroyed Ken Baxter, Bob Crittenden and Tim Wilson.

Eleven teams entered the GBC triples championship and there were 3 matches in round one.

On Friday afternoon the first match of the event was played under cold and damp conditions.

The green was fast and so were Steve Howlett, Peter Green and Barry Wade who took an early lead and were never caught and with 4 ends to play the match was conceded by Terry, Steve and Matthew Higgins with the score at 36 shots to 15.

On Saturday Dickie Baker, Bruce Wilson and Col Hebblewhite took on Rob Bowden, Bob Crittenden and Phil Wilson.

This match went right to the wire and with the final end to be played there was one shot the difference at 20 to 19.

Col, Bruce and Dickie took a 4 shot victory to see themselves through to Sundays second round by 24 to 19.

The third match also went to the 25th and last end but on end 21 the Groves boys, Phil, Mark and Wayne were trailing Peter Sansom, Neville Holstein and Kevin Everett by 26 shots to 19.

However with a devastating final 4 ends, scoring 14 shots to zero the Groves boys won by 33 shots to 26.

The second round was played under drizzle and cold conditions on Sunday morning but some of the bowls was red hot.

Col Hebblewhite, Bruce Wilson and Dickie Baker raced to a 16 to 4 shot lead by end number 8 over Vic Hebblewhite, Bob Charman and Gordon Pritchard and never looked back although Gordon and his team did make a good revival in the middle ends.

The result was 28 to 17 on end 24 and the match was conceded.

A similar story in game 2 as Peter Jones (substituting for Lu Urby), John West and Tony Tersteeg took a 12 to 2 lead by end number 8.

However Nico Duynhoven, Craig Yates and Steve Brown came back to 13 to 10 by end 14.

Then the wheels fell off and Tony and team raced away to a 29 to 13 lead before a second mini revival, but too little too late as the match finished on end 24 at 31 to 18.

Match three was between the Groves brothers, Wayne, Mark and Phil and Barry Wade, Peter Green and Steve Howlett.

A similar tale in this match as Barry and team lead by 17 to 5 on end 9 and stayed in front until the match was conceded on end 20 with Barry, Peter and Steve 32 to 14 in front.

The fourth semi final spot went to Bob Jones, Mick and Nathan Butler who won over Col Atkins, Stacey Groves and Kevin Burley. Again an early lead, 12 shots to 4 by end 9 allowed Nathan’s team to keep in front and with the score at 25 to 18 on end 24 the match was conceded.

The semi finals and final are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st of June. 

This long weekend there is a versatile triples planned for Saturday and on the weekend of the 13th/14th we have a visit from a travelling bowlers club and male and female players are needed for these competitions.
