A light dusting fell between 10am and 11.30am on Friday but falls were not significant enough to last more than a few hours.
Despite that, a few hardy souls managed to brave the cool temperatures and icy roads to catch a glimpse of the white stuff.
Steve Cato took his wife Naomi and four children Leo, 8, Emma, 6 and Eli, 2, for a day trip to check out the snow.
“It was our first snow chase of the year and I think it was the first fall of the year,” Mr Cato said.
“It only fell on the highest points, above 1400m (above sea level), but there was plenty of snow for snowballs and snowmen.
“We only saw about five other cars. Not many other people made it up there because of the short notice forecast and long weekend I assume.
“That was one of the best things about it. Normally it gets pretty busy up there when it snows.”
Mr Cato said the best falls of snow were near the popular Polblue campground.
Barrington Tops Snow Chasers Facebook page moderator Steve Oliver said only a handful of the group’s nearly 6000 members had managed to make it to the Tops before the snow melted.
“We had a few snow chasers post some pics, (but it was) just a light dusting of about 1cm and had mostly all melted within a few hours,” Mr Oliver said.
