Last week’s theatre productions of the musical Seussical by Gloucester High School was reportedly the ‘best musical the school has ever produced’. The show involved up to 100 school students - almost a third of the school’s population - and had been in rehearsals since earlier this year. Last week the efforts of cast and crew all came together for seven performances, of which four sold out.
Chris and Diane Pritchard were just some who said they were blown away by Friday night’s performance.
“It was so professional and just amazing to watch. The actors and singers were wonderful and what made it so great was the fact that this was performed by school children,” they wrote in a letter to the Gloucester Advocate.
“It could easily have been on a Sydney stage. We would like to also praise the musicians, director, behind the scenes members and anyone else who was involved with the production. Well done GHS.”
Drama teacher and show director Scott Davis said it was always hard to pick the right show, taking into account different talents, every two years.
“They rehearsed once a week for six months for this, with some weekends thrown in. Now it’s all over the kids are all saying ‘what are we going to do’?”
“It’s been a wonderful thing for the kids but everything has to come to an end. It’s back to reality now.”
Reality and Dr Seuss have not often co-existed together. It will be interesting to see what will be next.
