Saturday June 20 saw 11 members and friends taking the challenging walk up Coneac Forest trail. Starting from Craven Creek road it was a three kilometre steepish climb up to the start of Commonwealth Creek track. From there we enjoyed the less arduous walk along an undulating path, serenaded by a loud chorus of lyre birds. Also evident were their numerous scratchings and some of the group caught a glimpse of these iconic birds.

Then came the really steep ascent which had all puffing and gasping for breath. Hats off to Penny DB for making it. It was a cold day but we all felt invigorated by our energetic effort and hot drinks at lunch time were very welcome.
The group’s next walk will be to Sleepy Hollow Trail from Copeland Tops (Scone Road) to Bowman River Road, on Saturday July 18. Easy walk one way for four kilometres or the more energetic can walk back up the trail to the starting point. Meet at Billabong Park by Skate bowl at 8.45am or Barrington Store at 9.05am. Bring usual snacks, drinks and lunch. For more details contact Jeff Kite, 6558 7436.
