"The Gloucester and Barrington Tops region faces unprecedented environmental and social challenges," branch spokesperson Brian Lewis said.
"Major issues such as inappropriate resource development, environmental degradation, social justice, climate change and sustainable development all need to be faced and dealt with at a local level.
Regional communities such as Gloucester are regularly ignored and marginalised by all levels of government dominated by the Liberal/National and Labor parties who in recent media have been frequently linked to various interest and pressure groups."
According to Mr Lewis, many concerned residents of the Gloucester community had been sidelined and "treated with contempt by all levels of government."
"A new voice is desperately needed which can speak for those who have been disregarded and underrated by powerful self-interests. That is why this branch has been formed. This will offer a real alternative,” he said.
