July Doctor visit 1: Medical university students Georgie Midgley, Tim Brydon and Nikii Minto discuss rural health with Gloucester’s high school students.
July Doctor visit 2: The careers forum involving high school students and medical university students was hailed a success.
Eight medical students paid a visit to Gloucester’s high school students to highlight rural health careers within communities such as Gloucester.
The visit took place just before the end of last term and involved students from the University’s ROUNDS Rural Health Club. ROUNDS is one of 28 clubs belonging to the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN). Each year more than 300 NRHSN members volunteer to visit rural high schools as part of a national program promoting health careers to country students. Visits are made to more than 120 schools across the country, with workshops conducted for more than 5,000 rural secondary students.
Tom Lyford helped organise the trip and said the visit was a great success.
“It was fantastic to engage with such motivated and perceptive young adults,” he said.
“We were overly impressed by the level of maturity and engagement shown by the high school students in attendance.”
Tom extended his thanks to the students for their active participation and to Michael De Angelis for his role in organising the visit.
