Maintaining her affiliation with the Gloucester club, Shirley Beaton from Fern Bay went through undefeated 7-4, 7-6, and 7-5. She then had to play Al Minis in the finals on Saturday. It was pleasing to see several spectators along to watch.
Al won the first game 7-5. This was Shirley’s first loss giving her the right to challenge. Al was the eventual winner with another 7-5 win.
There were two handicap changes throughout the competition - Elynne Graham went from a 10 to a 9. Al Minis’ handicap changed from a 6 to a 5. This is the first time the club has had a player playing off a five handicap. Congratulations to both.
The competition was played as a two-line knockout. Players were:
Yvonne Bagnall with 1 win 7-3 and 4-7 and 6-7; Cecily Mahoney 3-7, 7-6 and 6-7; Col Weismantel 4-7, 7-5, 7-3 and 4-7; Elynne Graham 7-6, 6-7, Bye, 2-7; Brenda Pennicuik 2-7, 6-7; Lyn Stewart 5-6, 5-7; Al Minis 7-2, 5-7, 7-4, and 7-2.
The previous week the club hosted the annual inter-club visit between bowls, golf, tennis and croquet. Eighteen visitors came along. They were given a brief introduction to croquet prior to a game with croquet members. The morning concluded with the usual enjoyable morning tea.
