Despite what captain and co-coach Hayden Tull describes as a “sluggish and ordinary start” by the Magpies, the team reflected their form from the last few games, playing better as the game went on. Eighteen minutes into the match the Magpies were down 0 to Hexham’s 12 but by halftime had caught up to be down by two points.
By the second half the Magpies had found the rhythm in their play, and with 20 minutes to go in the match the Magpies were leading 22 to Hexham’s 18.
“We led with four with two minutes to go, and then they scored on the bell to beat us, winning by two,” Tull said.
The final score was Magpies 22 Hexham 24.
“All in all it was a much better performance but a lack of discipline cost the Magpies dearly.”
Players’ Player and 3 points went to Scott Wratten; 2 points to Matt Wise; 1 point to Simon Hinchcock and Mick Shultz. Try scorers were Mick Shultz 2, Johnny Cornelius 1, Matt Wise 1.
The Magpies will battle it out with Swansea this Saturday on their home ground in Gloucester from 3pm. Junior games start from 11am.
